As one who only goes to movie theaters two or three times a year. Most of my movie viewing is on the internet through a streaming service because I don’t enjoy paying the high prices for admission and Junior Mints when I can wait a few months and watch the same movie at home. I am not alone in this trend.
I don’t watch pirated movies because I do respect the writers, actors, and production staff who put in hard work in putting together stories for our viewing.
The times I have gone to the theater, I have noticed an increase in ways the traditional theater has changed to attract more viewers. My youngest daughter moved to Denver and started praising the AMC Theater. I took most of what she told me, as referring to a restaurant and bar next to that theater.
When I walked through the entrance of the Denver AMC, I had to blink my eyes twice. What I saw was not any other traditional theater I had ever attended. This astonishment continued on through sitting and watching the opening credits of the movie.
In the foyer of the AMC, I saw the usual popcorn, candy, and soda counter. Curiously, to the right it was a restaurant style kitchen so people could watch their food being cooked. Passing the entrance to the screening rooms on my right was a bar that served alcoholic beverages.
Walking into the screening room made me feel I was in some luxury theater. The carpet floor had row numbers embedded in it. A switch on the side of the seats made them recline along with a switch to heat the seats. Then a little table swung in front of me for my drink and candy.
That AMC movie theater surprised me with one last unexpected feature. In fact, in all my years, I had never seen it in any public movie theater. I have only heard rumors of it being in the private theaters of some rich Hollywood executives. Before the movie started, servers brought to viewers food they had ordered back at the counter!
Sadly, I live over four hundred miles from the Denver Colorado AMC theater. I know if there was an AMC in Boise Idaho, I would go there more often to watch the movie and the AMC experience.
