There has been so many reviews since the movie Wicked has hit movie theaters and I purposely waited until the theater was not crowded. To be truthful, I wasn’t going to watch it. I was going to wait until Part 2 came out next year and watch both parts 1 and 2. However, the reviews from friends and family prompted me to go to the theater to watch it. As a result of that experience, I felt compelled to write the following words.
The movie Wicked is listed at 2 hours and 40 minutes. Those of us who went to a Tuesday afternoon show sat in our seats for just over three hours. We had to suffer through over 20 minutes of commercials before the coming attraction started. The trailers of coming attractions lasted for another fifteen minutes, then the movie Wicked started.
I can empathize that theaters have to compete with streaming services for viewers’ money. Eventually, my local Regal attempted to compensate for lost revenue by making us suffer through twenty plus minutes of Pepsi, Disney, and other business commercials. If I knew that, I would purposely waited in the foyer another twenty minutes before finding my seat in the screening room.
Now on to the movie Wicked. I am not giving you much detail to what I like about the movie because I would be just repeating what others have written. For me the most astounding portion of the movie was the fantastic dance numbers. The next morning, in conversation with my daughter, she informed me those dancers were from the London stage production of Wicked. They performed those same routines eight times a week. Wow! I still sit back in amazement at their effortless movements while singing.
I must confess I am uneducated in the whole Wizard of Oz story lines. As a result of watching Wicked, I have gone to Audible and put the book on my phone. I am currently enjoying the experience of listening to it. I want to be ready to give you a proper review when part 2 hits movie theaters.
Stay tuned for further updates.
