The temperature is getting warmer. Tress is budding out and flowers are in bloom. This is the time of the year when people look at the stuff around their house and think about Spring Cleaning.
This past weekend I attended the indoor flea market at Expo Idaho. From now until late September or early October, signs on street corners will be popping up directing you and me to residences with abundant items for sale. These sellers hope to recoup some of their initial investment in rarely used goods. The signs will read “Yard Sale”, “Garage Sale”, or “Estate Sale”. About this time of the year, a friend insists on asking one or more of these sellers, “How you move the garage you have for sale?” The seller just shakes his head and moves on to another potential buyer of the items he has for sale.
I have found those who show up at yard sales early on Friday evening or Saturday morning to buy things; they saw would have a high likely hood to resale at a profit. These people resell those items at what’s been billed as Idaho’s Largest Garage Sale. It you don’t want to spend your Saturday mornings going from one yard sale to another, you can wait until May 17th, 2025 and go to Expo Idaho for the Idaho’s Largest Garage Sale.
Personally, I enjoy spending my Saturday mornings meeting the wide range of people who hold yard, garage or estate sales as well as seeing what they are selling. Over the years, I have met some very interesting people. Some items I found were gems I will cherish.
One last comment: The estate sale is a term reserved for the family who is trying to liquidate the collected items of a departed loved one. I usually go to these and find older antiques. When I go to a yard and garage sale, I will try to get the seller to lower their price on an item, not with an estate sale. I don’t because those items have some emotional value of the one who is no longer with them. I do it out of respect.
